I would call myself an amateur fly fisherman. Definitely not a pro level but for sure not a beginner either. Maybe somewhere along the lines of intermediate. That sounds about right. 

I have to say though my first few years were mostly self taught or by way of friends giving me tips and things like that. I never had any formal lessons or really went out with guides. I wasn’t really sure how this would affect me taking up my new hobby, but I wanted to give it a try. And I did.

Once I finally saw the light and realized, like I’m not catching as many fish, what might be the problem, I realized I needed some help. I had never used a guide, mainly as a pride thing, I know it sounds stupid. So I booked a half day with a guide to see what I could learn from a qualified expert.

I was highly impressed. There were so many techniques that I didn’t know. I also noticed a big difference between his fly fishing rod and my fly fishing rod. Mine was just wearing down while his rod looked really robust. 

I would assume that a new and updated rod would certainly make a difference in how well you were fishing. My guide suggested that I purchase a G. Loomis IMX-PRO Fly Rod from Trouts Fly Fishing. It was tough, but I knew if I wanted in on this sport, I just had to go for it.

When I tell you I received this fly fishing rod and got to take it out for the first time, that I was in absolute fishing heaven, I mean it. It was the most amazing fly fishing rod that I’ve ever even laid eyes on or touched. I could not have been happier. 

It’s not just about the fish. It’s such a relaxing hobby, it’s great bonding time with whomever you’re on your trip with. But no matter what, you want it to go smoothly and for the experience to be enjoyable. 

I mean really the big deal of it all was that I was catching fish left and right. It was amazing. I had really moved up in the world of fly fishermen. I was so proud of how well I was doing.
